I quite love what I do. I have the opportunity to perform but then I also get the chance to teach children in the practice of the arts that have been so kind and challenging for me. On top of this, I’ve had a lot of time to think back upon my own training andContinue reading “Teaching young children”

More on literary criticism
So I’ve been thinking about some of this a lot, specifically because I’ve been reading a lot more contemporary works lately (brushing up, looking for monologue material, reading good work in order to write better work), and I get especially enthusiastic about it when I’m coming down off a caffeine high (I drink coffee inContinue reading “More on literary criticism”
Stephen Adly Guirgis
Dear Mr. Guirgis, I know you’ll never read this. I’m just a struggling dancer/actor in Miami with a tiny little blog. But I want you to know: I am a big fan. You just write with a depth of understanding and nuance of character that… well, I deeply respect. For a literary nerd who had begun toContinue reading “Stephen Adly Guirgis”
Ahimsa vs. the need to create
For anyone into yoga, ahimsa isn’t a foreign concept: it means simply “non-harming.” For some, this includes abstaining from eating animal products, for many it means abstaining from intentional causing harm to another living being, be it through one’s own actions, words and thoughts. But what about unintentional harm? I think often about the factContinue reading “Ahimsa vs. the need to create”
Pushing past obstacles
Obstacles are a reality of life. They’ll come, they’ll go and some will seem too difficult to overcome. In which case, go around. 🙂 Unfortunately, going around isn’t always the best tactic though. Sometimes there’s more to be learned in the struggle of climbing and conquering that seemingly insurmountable rock than taking the easy path andContinue reading “Pushing past obstacles”
Defining yourself
How do we define ourselves? As the new year begins, and we turn to think of new beginnings, resolutions and fresh starts, I find myself asking this question over and over again – probably because it’s at the core of any new, continuing or changing behavior. Am I an actor? A writer? A dancer? A teacher? OrContinue reading “Defining yourself”
Happy 2016!
It’s January 1st, 2016! Have you had your black-eyed peas and collard greens? Have you made your resolutions? This year I hope to bridge the gap of “what I think I do” vs. “what other people think I do.” I know that sounds like an odd resolution to resolve, but hear me out here. It’s one thingContinue reading “Happy 2016!”
40,000 words
So I have hit the 40,000 word mark into the first book of my Theater Door series. It’s funny; before you start out on an adventure, you have all of these preconceived ideas about how things will happen and fall into place, whether it’s visiting a place you’ve never been before or starting a newContinue reading “40,000 words”
Pushing forward
Writing 50,000 words in a month is a challenge. Oy! I haven’t hit the halfway point and I’ve already done more than I’ve ever done towards a single writing project. And I have to keep this up for another two weeks? It’s discouraging to have to miss a day, but yesterday I had one ofContinue reading “Pushing forward”
NaNoWriMo 2015
HELLO BLOG WORLD! So this is my first year participating in NaNoWriMo, or “National Novel Writing Month,” the month of my birth, November. This is mainly because I had never heard of it before this year; I thankfully noticed a VERY casual mention in a magazine sometime in mid-October, and decided that it was theContinue reading “NaNoWriMo 2015”
Who I am
(As a writer). I am fascinated with the unpredictability and randomness of life. I am aware that where we begin is only by a ridiculous combination of chance and coincidence. What we do with these blueprints (our genes, our life), is then mixed up by another ridiculous combination of chance and coincidence. We can workContinue reading “Who I am”
A Christmas Carol 2011
This last December, Powerful Huntress Productions brought an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol to Miami, free to audiences. Written by Erika, this version of A Christmas Carol featured 3 actors playing every role in the traditional 5 acts. The show ran for 3 weeks at a local Starbucks and Lutheran Church.

Hurricane Andrew
Born and raised in Miami, my family and I went through the brunt of Hurricane Andrew, back in 1992. We lost most of the east side of our house; windows were blown out, a glass sliding door popped out (but didn’t shatter!) because of the pressure, furniture and belongings were blown around INSIDE the houseContinue reading “Hurricane Andrew”
